Department of Public Health Encourages Smokers to Quit for a Day – Quit for Life During the Great American Smokeout
  The Department of Public Health is encouraging Connecticut smokers to join smokers from around the nation on November 20, 2008 by participating in the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout. Smokers are encouraged to quit for at least one day, hoping that they will stay tobacco-free forever.

Glastonbury Resident Receives National Black Nurses Association’s Annual Collaborative Spirit Award
  Lisa Davis, R.N., M.B.A., a Glastonbury resident and employee of the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH), has been honored by the Northern Connecticut Black Nurses Association, a Connecticut Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA), by receiving their Annual Collaborative Spirit Award. The Collaborative Spirit Award, recognizing individuals who support the efforts of the Northern Connecticut Black Nurses Association Inc., in the provision of quality healthcare services and education to the community, was presented to Lisa at a luncheon on October 25, 2008.

State Leaders and Families Focus on Preventing Childhood Obesity
  The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Commission on Children, in collaboration with the Connecticut Childhood Obesity Council, held a forum today that drew more than 300 state and local leaders and Connecticut families to address childhood obesity.

Mosquito Trapping Ends for the Season
  The State Mosquito Management Program today announced that statewide mosquito trapping and testing has concluded for the year and reported mosquitoes tested positive for the West Nile Virus in 26 cities and towns, nearly twice the number of communities from 2007.
